Sean came to Southern Indiana from the Western Slope of Colorado in February 2024 and immediately fell in love. Having retired as a combat medic in the Army, he continued pursuing medicine as a veterinary technician and has experience in routine care at day practices as well as emergency veterinary care at 24-hour clinics.
After adopting McCoul, an Australian Shepherd, Sean discovered his passion: training and handling a therapy dog.
Sean's natural affinity for our canine friends led him to pursue his certification as a professional dog trainer after tragically and unexpectedly losing his companion and teammate, McCoul. He is currently studying to challenge the CCPDT-KA exam to add to his experience. While all areas of dog training interest him, Sean's primary focus is foundational training, what many people refer to as basic obedience: Sit, Stay, Come, Lie Down, and Heel.
When he's not working with people and their dogs, Sean can be found mucking out horse stalls or enjoying everything outdoor Indiana has to offer from baseball at League Stadium to camping in Hoosier National Forest.
Whelped on October 1, 2018, Finn McCOUL Murphy settled into his role as a Therapy Dog as if he was made for it. Beginning as a two year old, Mick offered himself to others so that they could escape from their daily stress for a few minutes. Because of Covid restrictions, McCoul transitioned from visiting hospitals and clinics to visiting retail workers, especially during the Holiday Season. McCoul's favorite activity was meeting new people, and he was well known all over Grand Junction, CO due to his free spirit, exuberant displays of affection, and remarkable discipline. Mick taught his handler, Sean more about dog training than all of the books he read, seminars he attended, or 1 on 1 sessions he received all put together.
McCoul tragically passed away during a camping accident in August of 2022. His memory inspired Sean to receive more formal training and begin a career as a Professional Dog Trainer so that more people could have the rewarding relationship with their dogs that Sean enjoyed.
